Ok I have the house all to myself tonight so no cooking for Mr Smow! I wouldn't ever bother cooking just for myself either so was thinking about walking to the shops and getting a few bits to make a little platter that I can nibble at through the evening.
What would you eat if you were on your own for the eve? Would you cook? Or have a selection of tasty titbits?
Any any ideas of what I could get would be most appreciated!
I'm on my own most evenings and it varies. Had crab meat with pasta and tomotoes yesterday. The day before just had tinned salmon & tomato sandwiches. There are loads of things one can put with rice, or a jacket potato. Or recently I had swordfish steak and loads of different vegetables. Or you can slum it with beans on toast. The world's your oyster.
God I haven't had a pork pie since ..... can't even remember!
OG don't know about the worlds your oyster but I've tried actual oysters - omg vile!!
Scallops - gorgeous!
Garlic bread when hot and bubbly is indeed a thing of loveliness!
If I were home alone (and not in a certain condition) I'd relish having the place to myself.
I'd have a lovely soak in the bath with bubbles (drinking and soaking), candles and music, followed by an awesome Indian takeaway. No cooking and no washing up :-)
have had a hankering for a slice of gala pie for ages.
Couldn't get one, so a half decent pork pie and hard boiled egg had to suffice,
If I was home alone, would depend on a few things, am I sitting watching a movie? then loads of nibbles, if watching a tv programme, a bacon, cheese n tomato omelette then loads of nibbles and a bottle of something to wash the nibbles down :-D
Once upon a time.....as all good tales begin....
I always cooked......mostly for family but on my own too.....I cooked.....until....
The oven wouldn't work properly.....MrG and the expert cooker repair man (yeah) assured me there was nothing wrong with the cooker.....
I think it was their......know it all smiles....she's only a woman she must be doing something wrong looks that decided me....if MrG wanted a cooked meal he knew where the not properly working cooker was so get on with it..... :-)
It was around this time that the cooker exploded......the firemen and policeman who attended were lovely, as was the new cooker, but I'd got used to not cooking by then and saw no reason to start again.....
I'm lucky in having a daughter and lots of friends who love cooking and are brilliant and imaginative cooks so an invite from me reads....Bring food....I'll do the drinks....
This works extremely well.......
On my own I'll have nibbles.....at the moment it's pineapple and almond soft cheese, cotton candy grapes and selected meats or fish from Aldi......followed by their Love Something Chocolate and Orange Ganache......and wine......
Enjoy your peaceful night, Smow.....xxx
I would have a piece of sirloin steak grilled medium rare, with some melted Cheshire cheese, and eat it on half a french stick. The blood from the steak would ooze into the grilled cheese and I would be in heaven.
As it is we're having roast Aberdeen Angus topside and all that jazz.
i get i cba days and i'll go to the deli counter and get lots of bits and dips.
I took meatballs out for dinner tonight but i don't fancy cooking or a big dinner now!
Well give me a hint Gness, the smoke detector that the Firemen installed last year started screeching at 4 am today, took me ages to do my hair, change into my best pjs and dg before I rang 999. Then gave it a clout with a stick and it stopped!
Still there's always tonight.
