Working in an embassy
3 Answers
Hello,
I'd like to work in an embassy overseas, but I have no idea the kind of roles and skill sets required for jobs in embassies, any ideas on what I'd need to study/learn/practice ?. I realise this is a generic question, but I don't know where to start !. I guess if I knew more about what jobs are carried out within an embassy it would be a good starting point. Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards,
Veronica,

You have people on postings IE Armed forces or members of the Foreign Office or MI5 etc. Then you have locally engaged staff which I came under. I worked in Security and also in an Immigration office. They have several secretary, admin jobs and also jobs in procurement. The way I got my jobs was to look on the internet as they often post jobs on there websites and then I applied, got an interview and had to travel to USA on a visitor visa. Then when I got the job returned to UK to get work visa. You can also try applying to the Foreign Office for various positions. They are always recruiting. The money is crapin the foreign office but good when you are on a posting abroad. Hope this helps. Obviously I only have knowledge of those particular embassies so others may be different.
