I'd be really grateful if someone would give some tips on how to win over my boss. He has decided that instead of allowing me to have 2 weeks off in both January & February next year, he's said that I can only have a week off until April at the earliest. I understand to a certain degree why. But, I can't just let it go like that - what can I say to get at least a bit more than that?

Tell him your mother/grand mother/aunty is having an operation and needs complete bedrest for two weeks in which you will have to be there to look after her. Pick someone and tell him they are living the other side of the country and you cannot go to work for 2 weeks because you have agreed to be their nurse.
