i had gained a job and passed the apptitude tests that were required, filled the tax forms and attended the first day of training, the trainer informed me after the session that he will need to book the second session of training and will contact me, a day after he rung me and told me that unfortunately the position is no longer available but would not tell me why, is it compulsary for a company to tell you why they have basically sacked you ???

Have you actually been hired? have you got a clear day from which you are on the payroll? If the training and test etc is part of the hiring process then they can change their minds and they do not have to explain why. If however you are on the payroll and have started, it should be a lot more difficult to fire you. There would be a dismissal process to go through and you should be aware of why you are being dismissed. So really it hinges on whether you are actaully hired or not.
sounds like a fly by night company to me. it wasn't selling door to door or telesales was it? They are the worst offenders.
