Requested Part Time Hours At Work But Will The Following Be An Issue?

I have put in a request to my employer opting for part time hours (25 per week). Please don’t judge btw even tho I have no kids I have personal reasons for dropping from full time.

Eitherway on the request form it asks me to explain how any shortfalls to the company can be made up for. I wrote that I can adjust my days and hours to suit and also work shifts at short notice.

I have sent the form but have realised a problem in what I have wrote. If my request is accepted I have basically agreed to be available/work anytime during the week, but what if I wanted to commit to something else for example volunteer on a Friday afternoon, another part time job etc.

Where do I stand with this have a basically committed my whole week to the job?

It's just a negotiation at this point, not yet a contract. If and when you get into the contractual phase, you can into the details ...

if you're going to work part-time, why would you be made responsible for "shortfalls"? Surely if the company agrees to your request it's up to them to find someone else to take on the work you aren't doing?

Jno it is just a section you have to fill in on the request form

You state your request for flexible working: ie total hours

Then there’s a section which asks how you think the change will impact on the service

Then another section which asks how you think it can be dealt with. It is here where I stated that I could adjust my hours to suit and fill shifts at late notice.

No not really. When they ask you to help, you do when you can. If it's not convenient, you just say no.

They can't expect you to be on 24 hour standby.
