Hi, I'm an OAP on various medicines, and very puffed up feet and ankles. Any tips on getting rid of this excess water? TIA

Are you on water pills? Can you take water pills? I'm sorry to say the only advice I have to offer is to contact your gp.

Elevate your legs wherever possible. As Alba says, talk to you GP

elevate you legs, some limb massage and maybe compression stockings.

but before you do anything you should speak to your GP

My question would be Why do you have puffed up ankles

amlodipine (for high BP) can cause swelling of the ankles.

Have you tried a tap on the foot ?

I feel sure that your GP would want to address the root cause of your oedema problem, rather than just the symptom, if that's possible.

For example, my father's puffed up feet and ankles came about through a heart problem (caused by excessive alcohol use).  So his GP, together with his hospital consultant, looked for ways to improve his heart health.

However my own puffed up feet and ankles are due to secondary cancer in my lymph nodes, with my consultant concentrating on slowing the progress of my primary (prostate) cancer.

So you really ought to be talking to your GP (or consultant, as appropriate) about identifying the cause of your oedema, in order that it can then be addressed.

However the standard advice for oedema (such keeping your legs raised whenever possible, avoiding sitting for long periods and increasing your exercise levels) will still apply:

Hi Lyn

Had the same problem recently and discussed it with my GP - I now wear compression socks once or twice a week for two days at a time - my ankles and legs are much better. Bought mine from Amazon. Hope this helps.

P.S. I take Amlodipine and these tablets do make your legs and ankles swell. Had the dosage reduced by half and seems a lot better. Hope this helps.
