Hi All, Ive have been made redundant and leave next Friday ( 24th Feb). If i dont find a job thats starts in March do i have to go and sign on to pay my tax etc? Thanks
Just register with your local Job centre Ali . While you are claiming job seekers your national insurance contributions will be paid, thus keeping the continuity in your state pension contributions. Job Seekers is not means tested so you won't need to take bank statements or prove anything, you just make a declaration that you are actively seeking work.
When I had to sign on after I graduated, I had to take evidence of my finacial status. Possibly this is because i'd not been in employment before that.
Job seekers allowance isn't means tested but other benefits are. It's possible CT that you applied for social security. Job Seekers is based in part on previous NI contributions, which you would only make had you been working. You wouldn't in effect qualify for JS so would get social security benefits, which are means tested.
