Deducted pay for doctor appointment

I wonder if someone could advise me on employment law. My sister who works as a dental nurse has been deducted 3 hrs pay for a dotors appointment. Is this right?

Your sister needs to look at her contract of employment to see what it says about time off for attending doctor/dentist appointments etc and whether this time off is paid or unpaid (and, if paid, whether you are required to make the time up). Employers are not legally obliged to allow employees to take time off at all (whether paid or unpaid) to attend docs and dentist appointments, though most, of course, do particularly in the case of full time employees.

miss zippy has just about summed it up, tho employers do expect you to arrange these appointments at a time when it won't effect your job.

This is sometimes unavoidable tho and good management practices would result in a satisfactory conclusion for all involved.

They are correct - I have never been paid for the time I've taken off for the docs or dentist. My employers have always expected me to arrange an appointment outside of my working hours.
