Is there a mileage limit you can be asked to move to another office as an alternative to redundancy?

No, there will be a clause in your contract that allows your employer to move you to anywhere.

More companies specify a "reasonable travelling time limit or distance" but I suspect there is also an arguable case if you were being made redundant and lived in a rural country district which only had two buses a day and you didn't have your own transport to enable you to travel to a relocated job 20 miles a day.

I'm not sure whether such a case has ever been tested but suggest you check out the ACAS website, unless there are any employment lawyers on this site who can offer more specific advice.
