In the past I have taken the view that redundancy is an inevitable risk of being employed. If it's inevitable there is precious little you can do to avoid it so don't waste time worrying about it. Move on. If you do loose your job...get another!
Think ahead. Don't wait until you are actually booted out before looking for something else. You may well enjoy the job you have now but you don't owe the employer anything. Clearly he/she isn't thinking of your future well being so you need to. If you get an offer of a more permenant job elsewhere in the mean time, then grab it with both hands. There's no room for sentiment in business!
