Hi

I have exams next week and I'm really struggling to retain the information.

Does anyone have any great tips to help me pass these bloody exams!

you just need to find out if you are a movement, sound, or image motivated. when i was revising for my A levels i covered my house (and my workplace) in posters, mind maps and annoying little sticky note things with all the stuff i needed to revise on so everywhere i went all i could see was facts and information. it drove me (and my entire family) absolutely insane to be honest but it got me 3 A's so i wont complain. good luck with everything im sure you'll do well.

get a dictaphone and record your notes onto tape and listen to them when you go to bed.

I do advise my students to rewrite notes and colour code/ reorganise as much as possible. Start by thinking of key words and link them to key theories/ facts. Pictures, rhymes, silly visual associations, jokes all aid memory. Write down self test questions as you are reading your notes and then see if you can answer them the next day. Talk to family/friends about the topics you're revising- the less they know about it the better becasue you have to know it to explain it to them. That would help you see what you know and which areas you are shaky on. Take time to rest- don't revise tired. Eat well and get some exercise. Sit at a desk in silence- that mirrors exam conditions and can be helpful. You will probably have retained much more than you think so try not to panic. Good luck.
