Any ideas how to get an exciting job at this age?

Im only 14. Im looking for an exciting job which is ok pay. I have been searching for a while but cant seem to find anything. I enjoy drama, reading and have went through guides and brownies. I wouldnt like to work in a shop as it seems boring and at this age i wouldnt get good pay. Any ideas?

at your age your options are very limited legally, and unfortunately with no experience and qualifications few would have anything decent for you.

i suspect you will only get a saturday job, paperound, etc.

if you live near stables or farmland you may get something there

If you enjoy drama have you thought of approaching your local theatre and seeing if there are any part time oportunities, scene shifting, set painting, tea boy/girl that sort of thing. You may have to work in a volunteer capacity to start with but experience is a valuable commodity for any young person. I appreciate it won't satisfy any immediate financial goals but play the long game. It's worth it!

Yes as joko said at 14 your options are limited, and employers may take advantage of the fact that you are so young. I worked as a Saturday girl in a hairdressers when i was 14, but the pay was crap and they worked me like a slave! In retrospect i wouldn't change it cos i can now get most jobs i want as a result of being thrown in the deep end, but my advice would be don't expect too much!

as gammaray said, theatres are good experience but they simply will not pay you - they will only just pay someone of age and with experience, never mind a 14 year old! - even qualified and experienced people have to work for free to start with in this industry.

but go for the experience - it will look good on your cv and get you involved and meeting the right people.

It depends whether you want excitement or money. At your age you're not going to get good money anywhere, though some paper rounds are not badly paid, last year my son did one which paid �15 a week just for the evening paper round. Working in a shop isn't too bad and will always look good on a cv as you gain experience in handling cash, dealing with customers and stock control (telling the manager something is running out!). If it's a busy shop you won't have time to be bored and sometimes it's the people you work with that make a job as they can be interesting people and can be a joy to work with. When I was your age I had a Saturday job working in a family bakehouse, washing up which sounds boring but there were two other teenagers there and we always had a laugh. Don't knock anything until you've tried it, life is all about experiences.

azerbec, my sister whose 15 has got a job in restaurant washing pots. It doesnt sound exciting and she wasnt excited about going, now she enjoys it as the people she works with are friendly and fairly young too. If she works sat + sun she can get around �30 and in the holidays she does more hours. Shejust rang aroung the restaurants and asked if they needed anyone.
