Working Time Regs state that there has to be an 11 hour break between shifts.
I work on the Railways and we have to have a minimum 12 hour break between shifts...we do 3 different shifts 7am -3pm...3pm-10pm..and 10pm-7am...but we always get 3 - 6 days off between shifts
clarebear - can I ask what job your bf does? 11 hours is the normal break, but there are exceptions (though you'd expect to get a longer break later in the week). Some of the excepted jobs are hospital workers, jobs where you travel, security etc.
in nursing we can do a late shift that finishes at 10pm and then can do the early the next day that starts at 7.15 a whole nine hours gap and that is the norm.
I work in M&S and often work til midnight then am in again at 7 the next day. Didn't know this was illegal...
