Google for Community or Communal Living, where you will find examples of communities who live together for the common good, usually with no external employment.
They are 'self-sufficient' and work the land and try to be 'back to nature'.
You should also consider those who volunteer their services to third world countries for no pay, or very little pay. You will be able to find strong individual examples.
Or how about the 'adventurer' who travels the world rather than settles down to the 9-5? Josie Drew is a young woman who has cycled around the world independently, working to allow her travels, rather than working for work's sake.

Then there are people who cannot work because they have to care for chronically ill or disabled relatives. You will be able to find many examples on the net, most of whom gain great satisfaction from caring for their loved one.
