A Levels and Scottish Highers

I was just wondering whether A Levels were the exact equivalent to Scottish Highers or whether A Levels were harder to achieve. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

I was always told that Highers were easier (that's why unis demanded higher grades of Highers than of A-levels) but that was many moons ago now. I don't know what the current thinking is on this, sorry, but I do have a little suspicion towards exams with such a high pass/A-grade rate as the current A-levels have.

When considering candidates for admission to University, UCAS awards the following points scores for Scottish Higher qualifications:
A 72
B 60
C 48
D 42

Scottish Advanced Higher qualifications are awarded the following points:
A 120
B 100
C 80
D 72

Points for A-levels are as follows:
A 120
B 100
C 80
D 60
E 40

So, as far as UCAS isconcerned, A-level qualifications are regarded (for most grades) as equivalent to Scottish Advanced Higher qualifications. Scottish Highers (even with good grades) are equivalent to passing A-levels at the lower end of the grade scale.
