My golden rule in life is - never upset someone who'se co-operation you rely on.
DHSS staff are god people, doing a difficult job, and they try to get it right, but they make mistakes. People who abuse them simply rub them up the wrong way, and revenge is to find endless ways to delay that individual's payments, whilst remaining stubbornly cheerful about it.
If you approach them get them on your side, and remember - they get paid at the end of the month whether you get your benefits or not, so it doesn;t pay to upset anyone.
Be nice - it will work wonders.

They generally DO sort it out, provided you cooperate and provide the necessary documentary evidence required of you. Documents need to be original and not photocopies, although if you dont want to leave an original document with them, (for whatever reason), THEY will copy it and record it as 'original seen' (or something similar).
