IT Training courses

I desperatley want to get into the IT industry either as an engineer or as an applications developer. I have been visited by the IT skills group and by computeach but i have heard bad things about them.
Has anyone ever trained and gained microsoft certification via distance learning, how much did it cost overall and did you get a job at the end of it?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a free lunch and you get what you pay for. He paid about �2500 although some of it was paid by the army as part of his resettlement. 2 weeks after completing his courses he landed a plum job but this may have just been a case of being in the right place at the right time but they certainly took notice of the qualifications.
