Hi, any advice on how to improve my ten year olds handwriting. I already try teaching him myself, and have mentioned to his teacher but she says that she can understand it. I think Schools put less attention on this task.

To get it better spaced you could try to get him to practice writing on lined or squared paper to help him get a sense of better spacing and shape and such.

There are some sheets you can customise here...

When she was younger, my eldest daughters handwriting was always dreadful until she went to senior school, she is now in year 8 and and it is suddenly quite legible. it may improve over time.
Her primary school wasnt really worried, but at her senior school they use fountain pens and it has to be better or she loses credit marks.

thanks for your advice, K.
Not an answer I'm afraid, but just some advice - don't worry about this too much. It has to be readable or he'll have problems in exams, but past that, it really isn't that big a deal. Most people's handwriting improves over time. Messy handwriting is also a sign of increased intelligence! Yes, really - it can mean that the brain is moving so quickly, the hand can't keep up! (That's not technically accurate, but you get the point). A great deal of the most intelligent people in the world have writing you wouldn't believe.

And now I'll mind my own business...

I appreciate the last answer as he is very clever, even to the point of obsessional. He is to be tested for aspergers soon on the advice of his previous teacher, and also, his very clever sister, whom the school said wouldnt go anywhere in life, ended up at university and she has adhd. cheers
