I would love to be a runner for a while.

a car is 'almost' essential for a runner.
you will likely not be paid for a long time, be given all the crappy jobs, and be prepared to be run ragged for a while.
as its your first time, you must tell them, so you can work alongside someone who has experience.
good runners are a god send but can be a nightmare if they don't know their job.

my dad statred his career as a runner at a film studios. he worked his way up and has known stanley kubrick (cant spell it!lol), been to George Lucas' ranch in america and has worked on countless films! You could try teddington studios, shepperton studios, bray, pinewood etc theres loads. send your cv and pester them, and yes it cruddy money!
