Hi. I've just been made redundant from my publishing job (worked there for six years) and have decided that it's time to go it alone and freelance as a writer/editor. I have some possible contacts but does anyone have any advice, or maybe even any work, to give me? Cheers

I guess the obvious thing to do is to send samples of your work (appropriate to the publication) to magazines etc and websites, and then phone up a couple of weeks later to check it arrived. THEN have it handy to fax when they claim they never received it! Also have you got a good accountant? You will need one if freelance, and also you will need to keep ALL receipts of anything you buy (and more) that is linked with your work. An accountant will be able to tell you how to do this in your favour, including things like "working from home" costs and travel to anywhere outside your work (home).

hi, you could check out a new freelance jobsite called http://www.bidlanceinternational.com . theres a few other freelance jobsites out there too but most of them charge really steep fees to accept work! bidlance international doesnt!
Have you checked Odesk or Elance. There are a lot of freelance websites nowadays where you can offer your skills. If you have a good background I am sure you can bid higher than of others. You can check this article:

Planning for starting with freelancing work is quite a nice idea. But if you are looking out for freelancing work then I will suggest you to try The Fitnesity which is an online job portal for people looking out for freelance jobs. Be it student, housewife or retired person you can find relevant jobs here according to your qualification and experience.
