I'm sorry to put this in here, just I see your name in this section quite frequently. I'm just wondering how you know so much! Do you just have an outstanding amount of general knowledge? It would be nice to see more people like you on AB.

How do I know so much? Well, to be honest, a lot of what I post has more to do with 'research skills' than actual knowledge. ('Information science' has always fascinated me, ever since I was head librarian at school, over 35 years ago).
I'm also an 'information junkie'. I hate not knowing something. I might, for example, hear two people on a bus arguing about something. If I don't know the right answer (even though it's not something that I'm normally interested in), I have to find it out. It doesn't matter that I'll never see those people again or be able to tell them the answer, I just have to know it. So, I'll get off the bus at the library to see if I can find out the answer. If, I can't I'll come home and give up a night's sleep to research it on the internet.
I also value factual accuracy to the point of obsession. A guy once stopped me in the street and asked me for driving directions across Sheffield. I told him the best route I knew but, when I got home, I checked a map and found out that there was a better route (which might have saved him 5 minutes). I still think about that incident, almost every day, and kick myself for getting it wrong. When did that guy ask me for directions? About a quarter of a century ago! ;-)
Of course, that doesn't mean I never get anything wrong on AB. However, I know that AB's real masterminds (such as Dzug, Kempie and Clanad) will soon correct me ;-)
Chris
PS: You'd never want to meet me. As you've probably worked out by now, I'm the world's biggest bore!
