Should a primary school have a gifted and talented policy and how should it work?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.as far as I know all schools have to have a g & t policy and a co-ordinator too. children can be identified by either being gifted - maths, english, science or talented - art ,sport, music. Then they can be assessed by the local education authority and it should go from there. get in touch with your local lea for more info.
How old is your child? Mine was identified at primary for this scheme, which then included Saturday mornings and after school sessions, my view was let children be children and have fun and enjoy the great outdoors when young. I knew that if I had told my hard working son his attitude was being rewarded with extra school, he would have given up there and then, much to the amazement of his primary school head I withdrew him from the scheme, so that he could ride his pony on a Saturday and after school. I have hjave seen a lot of pushed children turn off education including some of his peers who went on the scheme. I rewarded my child with a work hard play hard approach. Last summer he achieved 8 A* and 4 grade As
