Overtime - is it normal not to give higher rates of pay?

The company I work for doesn't pay overtime if you work on a Saturday - is this normal?
They pay the same rate as during the week.

Yes, quite normal.

Many, possibly most, companies pay a standard rate at all times. When I worked in the rail industry, we got the same rate of pay for working weekdays,weekend, bank holidays and overtime.

In a few occupations, overtime is paid at a rate lower than the normal rate. For example, until recently, junior hospital doctors' pay dropped to just one third of their normal rate as soon as they commenced overtime.

I didn't know that either, amazing that some actually pay less! I guess generally it's a choice if you do overtime or not though.

Makes me realise I'm quite lucky,any extra hours during the week is time and a half and weekends are double time.

depends on your contract of employment. some companies stipulate that you work 5 over 7 days therefore they dont need to pay you overtime until you work over 39 hours then it is classed as extras duties i would imagine.
