Has anyone ever quit a job with no other job to go to? How did it work out?
I'm in a job I hate, I come home in tears a lot and I really can't take it anymore. Also my colleague has told me she's leaving on Friday, which means my workload will double because they won't employ anyone to take over her role.
If I don't leave now I'll break down. I live with my parents in a rented house, which I pay the rent for and I'm so worried my savings will run out before I can find a new job. I really don't know what to do with myself, I haven't slept for 3 days.
Any advice would be great, thank you in advance

I was also very unhappy, and decided to quit my job, my work colleageues at the time said what are you going to do no job to go to, my husband was panicking because of the mortgage payments, but I had made up my mind not to be unhappy everyday, I got a temp position within a week a few months later a permanent position paying 4K more than what I was earning I am still in that position and never been more happy, my dear all you need to do is take a step of faith, as long as you are in a job you won't get any offers, because most employers want an immediate start. Give your notice in, start looking seriously and also speak to your parents, it will help. Good Luck!!
Indieanna , no job is worth this heartache. Have you discussed how you feel with anyone e.g. your boss at work? If this isn't an option or didn't make you feel any different then I think that you should look for a new job right away, hand in your notice and in the meantime go to the doctor to discuss your worries. They will be able to help you. Nothing is worth making yourself ill over. Remember that. You will find another job soon. Best wishes. Booxx
Thank you guys, its amazing how talking to people and just getting it off your chest can make you feel better. I've made the decision to hand my notice in on Monday and try my hardest from now to find a new job, even if its just temping to start. Hearing that other people have done the same gives me a lot more confidence, thank you!
OOh well done indieanna, I was just going to echo the other replies.
As you will have worked out, no job, whatever it is, is worth any stress, especially stress you take home with you.
You come first, look after yourself otherwise you will find yourself unable to work for anybody.
Rent problems can be sorted if you do find yourself in difficulty - speak to the landlord, explain the problem, pay something, which is better than nothing. Keep him updated too.
Get yourself signed up with an agency - people will always need nursery helpers, cooks, washing up workers, receptionists. If you feel unqualified (sorry, I don't know if you are or not) for some jobs you like the look of you will be surprised what a smart outfit, positive outlook, honesty and a nice smile will get you.
I can assure you you will get a temping job pretty instantly; you will have to wait probably a week or so to get paid but at least you can do as much or as little as you like.
In the meantime, get a good CV typed out, go through the phone book and knock on doors as well as trawling all the job ads you can get your hands on. The right attitude will get you what you need and you will look back on this and not believe you stuck it out as long as you did.
