I have been unemployed for a while now due to have post natal depression i REALLY want to get back into work but no one seems to want to employ me even though i have extensive experience in my feild of work does any one think its because whenever i fill in an application form i let them know about my depression because i dont want to lie about having it?
Hi louise, well you want an honest answer and mine is that I think it may be a factor they consider, not that they will admit to it. They may also consider the fact that you also have a young child, not that they will admit to that either.
But that said, keep on applying, the right job in the right company will come up.
you shouldnt have to reveal any medical details on application forms, and any employer that asks you to is surely leaving themselves open for being sued?
Anyway, dont mention it at the form stage, wait till you get an interview, so they can see how wonderful you are first
When I went to a recruitment agency, I was told that I would have to put down my problems with depression. Because it could be a liability for having exstensive time off work.
However my current employer (I was attempting to change jobs, but have yet to find anything) has never asked for such medical conditions.
Some of the answers aren't quite correct. It's ok for potential employers to ask about illnesses etc that are relevant to the job being applied for. Many employers would want to know about your sick leave record for instance, to judge how good your attendance record might be, and this is perfectly legitimate. This is normally done by tick boxes on an application form and not asking you to describe your illness in detail.
If the application form doesn't request this information then you don't need to reveal it. Be honest, but don't give them information that they don't ask for.
