Dilemma
11 Answers
Yesterday I got a phone call from a potential employer inviting me to go for an interview this Wednesday. However, I missed the call and they left a message with a phone number to call back on. When I went to call the number it said it was not recognised.
I managed to go on their website and find a general email address so I subjected it for the attention of the person I had to call back and explained that the number was not correct so could they try calling me back again. But I've still not heard anything. I feel like I will miss my oppurtunity now and I'm the one at fault when I'm not really. I don't know what to do! I'm not sure anyone can help but if you have any advice I'd be most grateful....

If it is a 'sound' organisation it will ensure it is available to all callers on a reasonable basis. eg if you as an interviewee can't get in touch, how would a customer with a complaint fare? On the other hand a job's a job and if you want to work for them then go for it. All you can do is turn up at the interview, if it's within reasonable travelling distance, and judge the setup for yourself.
Perhaps it was a test of initiative?? You must be able to get a number for the company somehow (directory enquiries, thomson, yell, their website??) and you said you know the callers name as you addressed your email to them - so just call and ask to speak to them - is the interview today? Did they say what time? If so, why did you need to call them - just turn up!!
Good luck - I hope it goes well - but they don't seem very professional if they have not replied to your mail, so make sure it's for you

Thanks guys. After looking on their website again, on Monday, I found a phone number only to find the person was on annual leave so I then called the main switch board number and asked for the HR department and explained it to them who were very nice about it and gave me the persons mobile number I needed. However, I did have to leave a message but they rung back and it's all sorted and my interview is at 3 this afternoon!
