'Temporary contract work' what does this involve?

What I mean is what are your rights?
I'm guessing u don't get paid holiday etc .... so if you wanted a day off for the doctors or dentist are you entitled to take it off?
and...
If you were offered a permanent job with another company could you give in your notice or do you have to work until the end of your contract period?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If you are temping through a recruitment agency, there is something called the working time directive which all agency use, you are entitiled to paid holidays once you have completed 13 weeks of consecutive employment (this can be for different companies, but it must be continious), your holiday pay rate is then calculated as an average of your hourly rate against your average hours worked per week.
If you are then offerered a permanent job, you do not need to complete the contract, there is nothing stopping you finishing with no notice, although it is usually expected out of courtesy that you perhpas give a weeks notice or work until the end of the week.
