Hello to all,

I need the help of any teachers, please.

Could somebody tell me how English is taught in schools today. I believe that the curriculum (with regard to English that is) is currently made up of English, Literacy and Language; am I correct. And if so, which of the above areas is given the most priority, i.e. the area to which most lesson time is devoted to for the purpose of reaching government-set targets?
Any help will be most welcome.

You're correct - it's Language & Literature. English language is the important one where targets are concerned

Which age groups are you asking about- Key stage 1, 2 3 or 4?

English language and literature are taught together and as individual subjects. Students typically do both subjects double award. In gov target settings the target of 5+ A*-C can include either or both.

i'm doing gcse's at the moment.
all our work ends in a bit of coursework plus we learn skills we need in exams so we learn lang. and lit. in proportion to the coursework + a few extra lessons on exam skills.
