What are the best universities for economics, business, finance etc

As the question says, what are the best universities for economics, business, finance etc?
If possible, in the North-west.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Usual suspects (in no particular order, not exhaustive!) - Oxford (PPE), Cambridge, UCL,LSE, Bath, Bristol, Warwick, Durham, Nottingham, Manchester.. etc. That is for Economics. Most require you to have a good Maths A-level grade and typical entry requirement is A*AA-ABB. This is partly because it is a very popular course.
So it depends on what grades you expect to achieve and what subjects they are in. Look at the UCAS web site and judge which course/uni you think would suit you best. Lists course requirements etc. http://www.ucas.com/students/coursesearch/
It is generally better to do an Economics degree then a post-grad masters specialising in finance/business.
From personal experience of Uni (I have a lot and didn't like most of it), I would say choose a course that you will enjoy and that you will be motivated on and go and look round the Unis and choose the one that you feel fits you best. If you pick one based on reputation and hate it, your over all grade and uni experience is unlikely to be good. However, if you're happy, you'll work hard and succeed in whatever you choose to do. There are also a lot of snadwich courses available that will provide valuable work experience for when you enter the job market when you graduate.

In North West, Lancaster and Manchester have excellent reputations. I think Liverpool is probably good as well. Places like Bolton and Central Lancashire are ex.polys. Generally lower standards (I say that as a grad. from a poly and a lecturer in another plus a fair bit of inside info. on others as an examiner.)

I agree with the comment from Pigletion, better to choose economics and do post-grad business (I've taught in those areas. I have an MBA).
Avoid mathematics and heavily econometrics based economics, unless intending to specialise in those areas. Good idea to study in related subjects as well; the most useful economics courses are in the second year so in final year broaden out. Especially if intending to study business. (A bit of politics, sociology, psychology helps).

Actually, Universities are not in higher studies. Otherwise, There are number of universities available in North-West who are best in Economics, Business Management and Finance. I'm working in " Bank Of America "as a financial asst. I didn't complete my higher studies from any university. I learnt everything about finance from Internet and ebooks.
