Qualifying as a proofreader?

How should I go about getting the necessary qualifications to become an employable proofreader? There seem to be loads of people out there willing to take my money!

That website seems plausible. I would also check by phoning a couple of the major publishing houses in the UK - ask to speak to the Head of Editorial Services. Ask them what sort of qualifications they seek.
My Dad held such a position for many years before retiring and was previously in proof-reading all his life. Most of his best external contractors came via word of mouth from others.
