Unless you are in a specific field (medicine, law, accountancy etc) it can be quite normal to be working for minimum wage.  What is important is that you are getting experience in your field.  Remember that a huge number of young people go to university now and it is no longer a guarantee for a great job.  And many of them don't get jobs at all!
As a chemistry undergraduate I am looking to start in a job with a minimum salary of aruond 18k a year at any of the major pharmaceutical companies.
I think you are lucky if you can get a job in the field in which you studied. I graduated last year with a 2.1 but can't find employment in my field. I am finding myself working in jobs where a degree isn't necessary, it's a bit depressing.

I know exactly what you mean. I graduated with a 2.1 in Zoology in June and decided to move to London with some friends in september to work. I wasn't particularly looking for any jobs in Zoology but at least a science job would be nice. Instead i'm temping in a firestation doing boring admin.
