If you'd like to be a bus driver, apply to one of the local bus companies for a job. They will train you if your application is successful. Once the training is complete, the company will also pay for you to take a driving test for a PSV Licence.

Depends where you live, but in some areas of London they are desperate for bus drivers!

In the North East of England a local PCV driving school charges around �300 for a week of tuition (40 hrs) culminating in a PCV test for which the present fee is �20.50 for the theory and �80 for a weekday and �98 for a Saturday or weekday evening practical test.

 

If you use a local bus company to provide the training and test then they will probably expect you to work for them for a minimum period, two years is not unusual. If you leave before serving this period you may have to pay them all or part of the cost of training you. Please take into consideration the long hours, stress, and generally anti-social working conditions.

It is a good short-term job for a young man BUT it always was a standing joke amongst my colleagues that anyone over the age of 45 was a prime candidate for a heart attack.   I made it to 50 and attended many funerals before cardiac probs set in but am now unemployed as a result.

Sorry to be so bl**dy cheerful but as I said, money can be good, with plentiful overtime, but please be aware of the risks.    The cost may not be financial.
