Hi all,
I started work for a well known retailer on 1st March.I have just completed 8 weeks of training(which was bloody knackering !)Started in my home store on Monday but I feel like I am being treated like a dunce. My job involves management and admin,I made a couple of mistakes in the past few days, nothing serious just silly. My manager has told me that she isn't happy with the training I received but since then has been a real bitch!Treating me like i'm incapable of doing the job, which I know i'm not and telling me to leave this, that and the other and she'll do it when she 's in!It seems i didn't get half of the training i should've done but surely this isn't my fault as I don't know what training I was supposed to have.To top it all off I am contracted to work 38 hours but so far this week I've done 38.5 and i've still got a full day tom!!and being salaried i don't get any overtime. The management team(3 others)are very clicky as they've worked together for years and I'm being treated like a outsider.
Am i overreactting and should give it a bit more time.
TIA

May I ask how old you are chilli. When you start a new job there are always people ready to put you down. Equally there are people who will help. Hang in there I'm sure things will settle down. Good Luck. Cas
Im 36,so not a "newbie"on the job front.I'm normally such a strong person and don't let things get me down but this has really bothered me.I know it sounds silly to react this way but it's making me feel thick.I know i am more than capable of doing this job but don't feel like i'm being given the chance.I don't feel I can say anything as i'm new and don't want to seem like a stirrer. All the general staff,ie:till staff etc are really lovely and have made me feel so welcome but it's just the management, which i'm meant to be part off!I probably am over-reacting but it's a horrible place to be at the minute.
Thanks for your good luck wishes Cass.

A common problem when starting a new job, especially joining an established management team, is they see you as a threat to their job. They are letting you know there is a pecking order and at the moment you are at the bottom. Give them time, they will come round and treat you as an equal. I have been through it,it's not nice but it happens.
Hi Chilliwitch
Vulcan 42 is absolutely right - you're definitely a threat - you ARE an outsider, therefore you might see some stuff they do wrongly, or take short cuts, or skimp. They're an established little clique and you're an intruder. Stick with it - with luck they'll ease up and accept you. Remember you're better than they are! Regarding the "overtime", I presume you have an HR dept - you could go for an "innocent" word to "just check"(without rocking boats etc). Good luck.
Retail is tough, there are so many pressures to hit target, keep the budget tight, save on controlables, if it's a good firm stay put and ride it out, at 36 you should be confident in your ability to do the job and expereinced enough to get on with any other personel, if you work over your hours take it back in lieu time which is the accepted method.
