anyone been to south coast universities

Have any of you been to or know about the universities on the southcoast, or even on the welsh coast?

Its a long way off, but i'm really undecisive so have decided i want to go to a uni on the south coast, and am now looking at courses, but what are the unis liek to live in, and what are the towns or cities like?

I'm from the south coast, which Unis do you mean (by the way the first priority on choice should probably be if they do the course you want and I thought you were after marine biology which is fairly specialist)

ok . . . plus i've never been to the south coast properly.

I went to portsmouth for practice of a trafalgar day parade, but it wasn't a holiday and i only saw the docks and naval training base.

Which unis are near to nice beaches?

Portsmouth is a cracking night out, and has great shopping

prudie, there are laods of uni that at the moment do marine biology, portsmouth, plymouth, exter, southampton, cardiff and a couple more.

Go to Pompey, it's the best. And the Ambulance's around there have the best looking crews!!

Normally you look for universities which are offering the courses you want - then have a look at their locations, not the other way round! Round here there are Universities in Canterbury and Brighton. Beaches in this corner of the world are mixed but mostly shingle - the beach should be the least of your concerns when picking your uni!

I completely agree with boxtops. You should be basing it on the size of the Union bar

and i've looked and almost all the unis offer a marine biology course except for a couple of small, obscure places that i can't even remember the name of.

Another thing is that it would ideally be near to a sea cadet unit.

Look here for UK Unis currently offering marine biology, none in the south east, all in the West or SouthWest or Scotland (not surprising since those are all good areas with excellent coastlines and varying currents)

I've been brought up to drink aclohol repsonsibly. If my parents are having wine, i can have some too, unless i'm going to cadets, am on antibiotics or i've already had other alcohol.

Well I've just had a quick look at Exeter and their marine biology is only a module of BSc Biological Sciences buy hey sometimes I wonder why you ask because you certainly can't be told. If you're after a good beach and night life try Bournemouth

Scotland is cold and miserable, i want to stay in the nice warm places for as long as possible. I know you'll say 'oh but you'll get posted to cold and miserable places and you can't turn around and say can't i stay in the nice warm?' but as long as i can help it, i want to stay in the warmth.

Some of them don't call it marine biology, there are various names that a similar thing comes under.

It's a fallacy to say that Scotland is cold and miserable, any more that it rains all the time in Manchester. I lived in Scotland for several years and yes it rained, but a lot of the time the weather was great and the scenery and cities are stunning - and great night life and jobs. Life in South East is just as dismal when it rains (like it did today) and you have to remember that the nearer the south you get, the more the cost of living goes it - it will cost you a lot more to live on the south coast than it does where you are at the moment. I've lived all over the UK and Brighton was most definitely the costliest place outside London.

True, but where i am gets especially good weather (we have a micro-climate as we are on an island, surrounded by the sea, a lake and two rivers.). I've asked about this before and got no decent reply.

And i've been to scotland for two weeks in auguest before and we got half a day of overcast weather and the rest of the time it rained !!!!!!!!!

You need to start saving if you intend to stay in halls for your first year - rent can be around £100 per week at the moment. It would be lovely if you could save up the rent before you went.

You can borrow the £3000 fees per year and will probably get a grant depending on your parents' income and can also take out a student loan. Going to uni is not cheap so it is good you are preparing in advance,
