Taking Lower Paid Job - Interview Question
4 Answers
Hi
I have an interview next week for a job I think I'll really enjoy, is less stressful but rewarding, but less money than I'm on now. My current job is extremely stressful and really upsetting me and affecting my health, so I am keen to move on. I can afford a pay cut - both financially and long term it will be worth it for my health and lifestyle.
I had to put my current salary on the application form and I'm expecting to be asked why I'm applying for job with less money. The job is in the voluntary sector, although this is a salaried position, so I expect most people who apply to work in the third sector expect a drop in pay.
Any ideas about good answers I can give?
Thanks

I think you could just say something along the lines of the new job interests you, you'd find it very rewarding and you're in the lucky position of being able to afford to take a pay cut to do a job you'd find enjoyable that can also utilise the skills you've already got.... <<< something like that anyway.
Good luck.

Not everyone is driven by money. You could state that you are applying for the job and not the salary and it's an indication of how much you want the job as you feel that it is far better suited to you for whatever reasons and that, in any event, the salary offered in mind and that it covers everything it needs to financially.
Stress is a difficult one to mention though as you don't want them to think you find it difficult to deal with stress generally and that it might affect your ability to do the job they are offering.
Good luck :)
