Hi 4getmenot !
Just Photocopy the Front Cover of your Passport and the inside Page which holds your Photo and Personal details
Question Author
surely the front of a passport is no different than anyone elses? plus mine ran out this year do you think that matters?
hi 4get, sorry to butt in. I dont think theyll mind that it ran out, they probably just want proof that youre a british citizen
It means, open up the double page where your photo is and copy it. I have done this in the past by photographing it and pasting the image onto a word a4 page cos I had no scanner.
Maybe it's just to confirm that it's a British (EU) one (although you could copy anybody's). I'd take the passport with you in case you've not got what they want. I agree it's not clear.
if they are asking for the cover then they mean the cover (for UK citizens, this is maroon). Take it, if you don't then they will think you have not read the email or paid attention to the detai.
If I were you I would copy the cover and the page with all your details on, then take the original passport and the photocopies with you to the interview. When we interview we have to sign to say we have seen the original, but keep the copies which will go on your personnel file if (when!) you get the job. As jb says, most employers keep data for equality & diversity records so they will need to see the cover to clarify which country issued it.
It is the legal duty of any employer in this countyr to hold certified proof that anyone working for them has the legal right to work in the UK, the most common ID for this is a valid UK passport. I take photocopies of staff passports whenever they start with the company and always ask at interview if they can provide the id needed. Anyone from the EU can legally work in the UK and so the ID page, being pretty standard throughout the EU, needs to have the cover page with it to confirm the nationality of the passport holder,
