DTP - Evening / graveyard shift

I currently work days, but am considering taking an evening or graveyard shift job in DTP.

I wondered if anyone has worked these shifts?

What is it like going to work when everyone else is going home?

Any thoughts would be great.

The plus side is you can use cheap travel - the cheap day return type ticket rather than paying peak rate.

The downside is it's a bit lonely unless there are lots of people on your shift.

Also, if you have to keep "normal" hours at weekends (e.g. if you have a family) then you will be permanently tired as your body will take ages to get used to swapping shifts.

But... the money is usually better, so for a short term fix it's worth it.

No boss looking over your shoulder.  Peaceful / lonely.  Depends which way you look at it.  Got to know the security guards quite well.  I used to look at it as the others coming in when I'm off home to bed.

I did permanent nights for over a year.  I enjoyed it at the time, but couldn't do it now I don't think.

     I worked nights for one year. It was great being home during the day to get things done, and I spent many days on the beach. But I had trouble sleeping during the day. I tended to sleep a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon. I never got enough sleep and never felt rested.
     Ditto to Ursula Re the weekends. I was up all day Saturday and Sunday and slept those nights. Couldn't help it.
     Worked a few afternoon shifts and hated that too. I spent all day watching the clock and waiting to go to work. I didn't want to start anything for fear of stopping in the middle or being late for work.
     That said, everyone is different. I like days.
