As long as he lets you have Christmas Day off, he can do pretty much what he likes.
My boss used to do this on an almost weekly basis; he’d call me up on my day off to come in to work and give me another day off. I've caught on to him - now I don't answer my phone when my job call on my days off.
unfortunately in this day and age employers seem to do what they want and worry about it later......
Do you have an engagement letter that talks about your hours / days of work being XYZ? If so, and if he is suggesting changing them to PQR, then he is wanting to change your contract.
He can do this, but only with consultation (talking to you to explain, with the opportunity for you to explain the problems it would cause you). You might be able to shift him.
