My Boyfriend has expressed a wish to play footie.

He wants to send letters to maybe the 3rd division teams to ask for a trial.

He has just turned 20 is he too old?

He may not be too old, but he has zero chance of getting a trial this way.

His best bet is to get into a local Sunday league or pub side - if he is good enough, he will get spotted and a scout will find him and it will go from there. If that doen't happen, he maybe just isn't a good enough player - remember, there are hundreds of thousands of lads who are very very good, just not quite good enough.

Good luck to him - if he has the talent, someone will find him.

Its hard for him to get into a team because he works nights but he plays five a side every week and is in a  tournament this weekend. Maybe someone will spot him there.

Do tou not think it is even worth him giving the letters a try?

Nothing to loose - make sure he mentions that he plays in a tournament side - someone may be looking out. Best of luck.

There is website where you can list your details for a fee. Some teams look at these for players. In reality though if he has not been in a youth setup of a club he doesnt have much of a chance of getting in because most players rely upon references from people within 'the game' to get themselves trials.  Saying that though look at Dave Kitson as an example: he did not go pro until he was 21 and now he is playing for Reading!. Like the previous post said your bf should try and play at the best level he can locally. It would be worth approaching a host of smaller clubs in the lower non-leagues. Good Luck!
