Daughter's looking for a job. She's seen one [Education based] salary is 20K, but it's shown as "pro rata" does this mean as she'll only work 40 weeks [12 weeks school hols] her actual salary will be nearer to 15, 385 [ ie 20,000 52 x 40] ?
Or have I missed the point completely?

You certainly haven't missed the point completely.
If she is expected to work 40 weeks per year and gets to take leave within the 40 weeks she works - minimum of 20 days per year is statutory in a full time job - this too is likely to be pro rata-ed so closer to 16 days then your calculations would be correct.
If however she is meant to not take leave during the school terms then she is entitled to paid leave during the school holidays. Again this would be pro rata-ed and would work out at about 3 weeks. Her salary then would be 20000/52 x 43 = 16,540
