Although many of us are lucky enough to have a stable long term job, some are not so fortunate. Whether they have only temporary contracts or in the worst case have been made redundant many people have found themselves without a job. While some see this as a problem others can look past the difficulties and see an opportunity. It is these people who find that a change in career is now due. Many start their own businesses or retrain for a different skill set.
As much as everyone likes to chase their dreams and 'never give up', there sometimes comes a point when enough is enough and it's time to have a re-think. And never is this more so the case than with jobs and careers.
With the economic climate forcing everyone to tighten their belts and re-evaluate their positions, many people are reassessing their options and opting for a change of path. Millions of Britons could potentially attempt another career course, at least until the economic climate becomes more favourable to dream-chasing.
Indeed, according to careers experts, it's best to take both an optimistic and a pragmatic approach to one's working life and, while nobody should be put off from pursuing their dreams, it's often wise to assess whether unrealistic expectations are getting in the way of other things, such as a good work-life balance or a decent wage at the end of each month.
"No path is unrealistic, but expectations can be," explained the president of a US-based careers change advisory firm.
He added that, if things are really tough, then those who don't have the necessary "talent, drive and perseverance", would often be better off leaving their dreams behind, at least temporarily. Sometimes things don't go according to plan, forcing almost everyone to look for other employment opportunities at some point in their lives.
