neighbour's complaint
A neighbour has complained to the local authority about a minor alteration to the outside of my house. Do I have the right to know the identity of this neighbour?

I think that you may have an idea whom it is though but unless you've erected a a ten ft' snowman (or Santa) on your lawn this early in the year then maybe they have a valid point.

Sometimes you have to have planning permission for even a small thing. It is always wise to check with the local authority so that if the neighbour complains you know you are in the right. The planning department have to inform anyone who would be affected by what you planned to do and they would have had a chance to object at that stage before you have gone to expense and bother doing whatever it was. Can you tell us what it was or do you want to keep it anonymous?
