I have been told that if a candidate from the EU applies for a vacancy they must be given an interview, even if they live outside the UK and aren't suitable, can anyone please clarify whether this is correct ?
Many thanks in advance

I can't see any reason why that would be true.Who told you
I have only heard that applied to all disabled applicants as part of the guaranteed interview scheme.

The EU candidate told me, but I find it hard to believe, but I would like to see proof one way or the other, if anyone can help ?
EU candidate from which party, LDC? Wasn't UKIP was it?
that's one way of getting an interview..tell big porky re phantom legislation...
Oh I see, you mean a job candidate from the EU (thought you meant an EU election candidate).
I agree with murraymints
There are various bits of EU legislation, converted into UK employment law, that requires that employers do not discriminate, either directly or indirectly, in recruitment practices.

But that does not extend to guaranteeing a candidate an interview.

Some employers (under their own policies) do guarantee interviews to particular under-represented groups. But that's their own chosen policy, not a legal obligation. Such groups are generally public sector organisations.
Actually pretty much all public sector employers apply the Guaranteed Interview Scheme to disabled applicants. You'll see it as a '2 tick' sign on their branding logos (eg logos at the bottom of an ad or letter). Agreed it is not a legal requirement nor binding to all employers.
totally untrue. Not sure about the “people with disabilities” bit but many computerised shortlist systems do not allow interviewers to know details about nationality or location. Once the shortlist has been created, then more detail is disclosed. The only thing employment LAW has to say about the interview process is that all candidates must be treated equally and without discrimination.
Have to say its a good try though.....
If that was true then all applicants including all the UK applicants would be guaranteed an interview! We are all 'EU candidates' no matter if we come from the UK , Bulgaria or Spain. Only an applicant from outside the EU would not be given an interview. It is a scam !! they would try to claim travel expenses if you gave them an interview! they are looking for a free holiday!
