How long can a garage use trade plates on one of their works vans

Depends whether plates are red lettering on white, or white lettering on red which have a very limited permitted use.
They can't.

Maybe things have changed since my days in the force but I remember a sying we had in relation tp trade plates which was "red on white he's alright, white on red stop him dead"

Hee Hee.The ink on my warrant card was still wet.
The garage that I worked at in the 60s the recovery vehicle had trade plates but I can't remember which way round, red or white.
