interesting question posed by the Guardian....

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2019/may/20/should-you-ban-wedding-guests-from-watching-champions-league-final

so just imagine it's your wedding - what do you do? do you accept guests will watch the game and may ignore you and your ceremony? or do you request that they don't and risk alienation or desertion?

I would say no phones at the ceremony but what people do at the after party is up to them.
Get a big screen tv installed and keep everyone happy. Those who want to watch can and those who don't won't be made to feel bad for making them go to a 'weeding' by their partners who do!
Mowing lawns, ok, but weeding? Definitely a step too far.
if they're having a sneaky look at the match on their phone during the ceremony i hope they don't scream 'goal'
If they've helped with the gardening it's only fair to let them see a bit of football.
I would let them watch, you want the guests to enjoy themselves too (and just hope it was a win).
As a guest at someone else's, I wouldn't though.
Thank you, mushroom, for my morning smile :)

Think I would confiscate all mobile phones, tablets etc. and just allow bona fide cameras.

Big screen tv for the reception after all it is a party - but a ban on phones during the ceremony
^^ sounds a good compromise.
Some people(a lot) are religiously fanatical about football (religiously up here anyway lol)and football doesn’t come much bigger than champions league, throw in two English teams in final and it really is massive to them.
Best thing would be ,like what others have said, a screen so people could watch it
Get a TV in....quickly!

I recall being at a wedding venue with no TV on the day England played Scotland in the European Championships and it was embarrassing because most guests went to the pub across the way before the speeches.
Bar that, future brides take note when planning your big day i.e. ALWAYS consult the sporting calendar first.
Screen for the game only. No need to listen to the rubbish the “ experts* spout an hour before the game .
What on earth time’s the wedding?
Surely the ceremony will be long over before kick off

Weeding????

poxy auto-correct! at least it's raised a smile.....
You know Mushroom meant Baldric!
Stop being hysterical Baldric, its just a spelling error!
In my family, I know better to plan something on important games LOL!!

I remember the days people had pocket radios to listen to footie scores & then legged it to the TV after mass for the end of the game.

Being a fan i would personally allow it. Its not like its a huge length of time!!!!!

And if yer team wins...... PARTY TIME!!!!!! X
Of course he did, Ummmm. Becoming tedious. Made me smile, mushroom.....once I realised I wasn’t going to have to apologise to the dandelions before pulling them up. :-)
No, I wouldn't accept that guests wanted to watch a football match. I don't know anyone among my friends and family who would be so rude anyway.
