I have been from my ex partner for 8 years and havent spoken for at least 4 years. I have 3 teenage boys with him who dont have much to do with him. Last week there was an arguement between my two eldest boys which ended up in them fighting, my one boy went to see his father who then came down to my house shouting. When i told him to get from here he flung me across the road breaking my wrist in two places. i have made a statement with the police who said they would arrest him then let me know what would happen, its been a week now and i havent heard anything. would they have arrested him by now?

I assume you have contact details for him including his employer which the police must know to speak to him and interview him with regard to the assault.
The police process can be very time consuming and any charging decision will have to be authorised by the CPS. If he contacts you or threatens you then contact the police and ask of the "OIC" Officer in the case who will keep you updated with regard to the status of the investigation.
Keep your boys away from him as contact between them and your ex may further enflame the issue.
If you wish contact good family solicitor who will advise you fully of the next stages.
GOOD LUCK

Contact the Police station who dealt with the incident. This happened to a friend of mine two yrs ago and they left her hanging like a dead animal! it was an awful time for her and her child and for us who were trying to support her through it.
When she contacted the Police, they kicked their butts into gear and gave her the answers she wanted. She made a formal complaint to the Chief of Police and her complaint was dealt with well and was full of apologies - turns out the Officer dealing with her complaint was a rookie and had been sent off on leave without compleating a load of paperwork!
Good luck

P.S....the Police have a duty of care towards you. Dont let them treat you with disrespect. Remind them that in fact you are the VICTIM! Also, worthwhile getting in contact with Victim Support (can get local number from Police station) they are VERY helpful and will also chase up the case for you xxx

Thanks for the advice, I called back into the police station a week after the incident to find out what they were doing about it and i spoke to the officer who was there the night it happened. He said he hadnt had the statement back from the other officer and that something would be done, but they have done nothing yet. I went to my solisitor last week and she said the police are hopeless, but she is sending a letter to my ex stating that i will be taking him to court to take it further. She also said that if i get any bother from him once he gets the letter to phone the police, but whats the point they have done nothing so far about him breaking my wrist.
Shaz, theres every point hun! If we all stood back and said "Whats the point?" abusers would have free run to do as they please!
The Police have a duty to chase up the case and sadly, you have a duty to chase it up as well. I would seriously go back to the police and demand tht you speak to a senior officer and complain that you feel let down and betrayed.
Get your solicitor to chase it up as well.
DONT GIVE UP ON JUSTICE!!
Good luck and hope you had a christmas that you were all able to enjoy
