If i get a replacement, shoud i get a new guarentee?

I bought a laptop last october and due to a fault with it i had to get it replaced by the company i got it from. Now i am having the same problems with the replacement and the company are now saying that the replacement is covered by the original guarentee and they are no longer responsible? do i have any argument for this?

This is the norm - your original guarantee stays in force.

How long have you had the second laptop and was it absolutely brand new or a refurb?

It's OK if they do give one and OK if they don't. Guarantees are always completely optional because even without one you have rights against the seller (or supplier if replacement) of the item for UP TO 6 years.

The guarantee is given by the manufacturer, and legal rights are against the seller so it is 2 separate situations. You will have rights against who you bought it from because the replacement isn't satisfactory quality and it will be dealt with as a different item to the original one bought.
