Can anyone tell me what my rights are? About 1 month ago, I booked my sons Christening party in the function room of a local pub and left 100 deposit. I went to the pub yesterday to pay the full amount and confirm numbers for the buffet and the landlord I paid the deposit to has been sacked by the brewery and the new landlady said she will honour the booking date for me but I will have to pay the full amount to her again - i.e. I have lost my deposit. I have a recepit - my husband phoned the brewery and they basically said bad luck - you will just have to pay the new landlady again. Is this right or does the brewery have to honour the deposit money?

take what you owe into them with copy of receipt if they want to dispute it tell them to, they wouldnt have a leg to stand on if you have receipt
Exactly, if you have a receipt then you have proof of payment. They have no excuse for not honouring it.
One problem with this the new landlady could just refuse to take the booking.

Also I would suspect that your contract is with the old landlord and nothing to do with the brewery.

i would suspect that the law of contract would play a part here. you need to check who you made the contract with - the landlady or the brewery - if she did so in the course of her employment, then the brewery may be vicariously liable or jointly and severably liable. check your reciept- if it was in her name only then you would require to raise a small claims action against her, if it was in her and the brewery name (which i doubt) you could claim either/or
