I live on a cul-de-sac close with about 15 houses in and one neighbour has just erected a 25-30ft flagpole in his front garden. Not such a big deal but just wanted to know if you have to get planning permission for that sort of thing. Thanks

Yes I am talking England thanks
What sort of idiot sticks a flagpole in his garden? Actually, probably the idiots that regularly post her about the fact that nobody celebrates St Georges day anymore. I feel sorry for you.
I live in Bedfordshire and drive past 3 or 4 flagpoles in gardens on the way to work, displaying either the St Georges Cross or Union flag.

I think it is brilliant and only adds to the character of rural England.

Though I suspect that it wouldn't be appropriate everywhere.

I would be concerned because it will probably half the value of the houses in the surrounding area unless its the Lion Rampant which, I believe, is illegal in England

Thanks Jock.

I think everyone should put flags up outside their houses.

I recently got back from a trip to the USA.....Flags everywhere.

Come on, England,Scotland and Wales, be proud and get them flags flying.

We beat them on the beaches and on the land and in the skys, god bless the UK.
