Traffic camera

I was driving along an unfamiliar road today and in a side road there was a saloon car at the junction, only he had the window down and was pointing a camera towards the oncoming traffic (ie me) now i was not really speeding but i did panic for a moment. I was under the impression they had to have hiviz jackets etc and signs out (not be in a normal car and wearing a tshirt). If this man is not police what on earth could he be doing? any ideas anyone?

Could be the locals gathering evidence for a lower speed limit.

It's not illegal to photograph traffic.

it could just have been someone who likes photography, you know. I wouldn't have thought an ordinary camera at street level would produce acceptable evidence of speeding, or anything else.

dzug yes i know, thanks Sir.prize i did have a look at a similar site but there was nothing to suggest the traffic police where using civillian vehicles for speed cameras. jno, i did wonder that, could be for an Insurance investigation or a Private detective, but i did wonder if it was for Car Tax but they are marked too, well, i've probably been on the national news or something with my contorted face trying to figure out what he was doing. I did just put it down to someone just filming, just seemed a very odd place to do it. Sat at the junction. Thanks everyone

OH! well if they start doing that they will get more drivers i guess, i have been shocked at how bad people drive and the speeds that some drive, we all go slightly over 30 sometimes but when your driving at just a tip over 30 and there are several cars up your bum and when there is a clear bit some race to get past, where are the speed cameras then i wonder? i suppose were not supprised its come to this, hiding in a horse box. If the guy in the car was holding a speed camera, i was paying more attention trying to figure out what he was doing than driving, if he had been in polica car/van etc i would of just ignored him. i found it off putting because i wondered what he was doing, the wedding cars we saw had been long gone by the time we the car with the camera.
